Studio 40A - The pursuit of art came later in life to Mark Fortier. It was a surprise discovery. Turning 40 was a milestone that signified more than just a calendar date. It was the beginning of a journey of escalating success for Mr. Fortier - "the colored pencil artist".

Mark's color pencil artwork quickly gained recognition. First on the regional level winning numerous illustrator awards and then onto the national level, winning several colored pencil art competitions. Mr. 40A's color pencil work was selected as first place winner of the Strathmore 2004 National Colored Pencil Competition. His colored pencil artwork was also solicited to exhibit in Chicago for Sanford/ Prismacolor - color pencil manufacturers.

Mark was also selected to exhibit in the Colored Pencil Society International Exhibition in Memphis and was honored with an award for excellence in 2004.

Mark Fortier's color pencil work has been selected for exhibition in the 2005 CPSA - Colored Pencil Society - show in Chicago.

In the fall of 2005, Sanford Corporation purchased Mark's colored pencil illustration "Over the Counter". The color pencil picture was used for their packaging label on their Prismacolor colored pencil boxed gift set which is distributed all over the United States and Canada to other colored pencil painters and illustrators .

He has been published in Direct Art Magazine, Spring 2005. In February 2006, Mark's colored pencil works were exhibited in New York City at the Agora Gallery.

Mark Fortier works out of his studio (Studio 40A) in Western North Carolina.

He currently has two lines of colored pencil work: The Americana Series and The Beach Series.

By the way, "Fortier" is pronouced, "40 A". Thus the name of Mark's color pencil illustration studio.
